GRINNELL, Iowa - The Coe men's swimming and diving team is in sixth and the women in seventh after day one at the Grinnell Invite. The women had two top-three performances, while the men had four in the top-seven.
Junior
Kelsie Rehn (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) turned in one of the Kohawks two top-three finishes on day one. Rehn swan a 5:26.76 in the 500-yard freestyle for a third-place finish. Freshman
Rebecca Herman (Iowa City, Iowa/West) had the other third-place finish, hers coming in the one-meter diving with a score of 351.60. Fellow freshman
Elizabeth Curley (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) also competed in the one-meter diving, placing seventh with a score of 283.60.
Two women's relay teams finished in the top-10, with one showing major improvement over their seeded time. The 400-yard medley relay finished sixth in 4:43.11 after entering the meet with a top-time of 5:02.77. The 200-yard freestyle relay placed ninth in 1:53.37.
On the men's side, junior
Peter Curran (Afton, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) had two top-six finishes for the Kohawks. Curran placed fifth in 5:10.85 in the 500-yard freestyle, while he was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.79.
The men also scored in two relays with top-seven finishes. The 200-yard freestyle relay was sixth in 1:38.19, while the 400-yard medley relay was seventh in 4:14.06.
Action kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Grinnell College.
