CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe men's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of wins over Augustana and Simpson. The Kohawks beat the Vikings 8-1 before defeating the Storm 9-0 in the nightcap.
Junior
Elliot Rausa (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) went 4-0 on the day, with all four wins coming at the top-spot. Rausa beat Adam DeSimone of Augustana 6-2, 6-1 and Noah Saunders of Simpson 6-1, 6-0. He also teamed with
Scott Stegemann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) for a 8-6 win over Chris Mullin and DeSimone of Augie and were 8-2 winners over Adam Summitt and Saunders of Simpson.
Stegemann also earned a pair of singles wins for the Kohawks. Stegemann beat Kyle Doyle of Augustana 6-2, 6-0 at number four singles before defeating Stephen Henrich of Simpson 6-1, 6-2. Senior
Greg Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./West) earned two wins on the day, both coming against Augustana. Janssen was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Will Palmer at number two singles, while he teamed with
Kyle Tucker (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) for a 8-2 win over Geoff Schoon and Jack Cullen at number three doubles.
Tucker tallied two other wins on the day, as he defeated Simpson's Daniel Schneider 6-0, 6-0 at number four singles and teamed with
Jonathan Roger (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) for an 8-0 win over Lucas Haak and Sampson Shnurman at number three doubles against Simpson. Roger went 2-0 in singles play, defeating Augustana's Jack Cullen 6-1, 6-3 before beating Simpson's Lucas Haak 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore
Victor Khristenko (Orel, Russia) went 2-0 in singles play. He defeated Augustana's Nik Lehnert 6-2, 6-2 at number three singles and was a 7-6, 6-0 winner over Simpson's Adam Summitt at number two singles. Khristenko and freshman
Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) were 8-0 winners over Schneider and Henrich of Simpson at number two doubles.
Newman tallied two wins at number six singles, defeating Augustana's Geoff Schoon 6-2, 6-3 and Simpson's Schnurman 6-0, 6-0.
The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Buena Vista. Coe will face the Beavers at 9 a.m. and face Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m.
