CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe softball team will start the season ranked in the top-five in the nation for the first time in program history. The Kohawks finished last season ranked second in the nation, following the teams first appearance in a National Championship game.
Coe finished the 2009 campaign with a 41-13 record, while becoming the first Kohawk athletic team to participate in a national championship game. Coe returns two All-Iowa Conference members from last season and two members of the All-Midwest Region team.
Senior
Abby Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) was a First Team All-Iowa Conference selection at catcher, while sophomore
Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) was a second-team choice at pitcher. Simon was also a second-team All-Midwest Region selection, while senior
Chelsea Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) was a third-team all-region choice.
