CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe men's tennis team lost its first dual of the season Saturday, as they fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse 5-4. The Kohawks bounced back in the nightcap, making quick work of Monmouth 9-0.
The Kohawks got down 3-0 in doubles play against LaCrosse, were able to win four of the six singles matches. Junior
Elliot Rausa (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) beat Joey Van Lieshout 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles. Despite losing number two and three singles, the Kohawks won four, five and six singles.

Scott Stegemann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) defeated Steven Quiring 6-7, 6-0, 10-6 at number three singles. Sophomore
Jonathan Roger (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Paul Vickers at number five singles while freshman
Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) beat Jon Mahvi 6-2, 6-2 at number six singles.
The Kohawks gave up just three games in doubles play against Monmouth, with senior
Greg Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./West) and freshman
Kyle Tucker (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) getting an 8-0 win over Erik Soliwon and Brian Miller at number three doubles. Rausa and Stegemann won 8-1 at number one doubles while Newman and sophomore
Victor Khristenko (Orel, Russia) won 8-2 at number two doubles.
Janssen was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at number one singles over Sam Graf. Tucker at number four singles, Rogers at number five and Newman at number six were also 6-0, 6-0 winners in singles play. Khristenko beat Ben Morrow 6-4, 6-0 at number two singles, while Stegemann beat Gabe Cheng 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles.
Coe will return to action next Saturday as they host Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 9 a.m. and St. Ambrose at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Clark Racquet Center.
