ELSAH, Ill. - The Coe College swimming and diving teams turned in five top-five performances in the first two days of the Liberal Arts Championships.  The Kohawk women are on the verge of a top-four finish heading into the final day.
Junior Kelsie Rehn (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) took third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.52.  Coe had two top-five finishes in women's three-meter diving.  Freshman Rebecca Herman (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was third with a score of 317.00, while freshman Elizabeth Curley (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) was fifth with a score of 129.95.

Rehn started the second day with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.  Her time of 2:01.21 was over a second better than her preliminary time.  In the men's 200-yard freestyle, junior Peter Curran (Afton, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) was sixth in 1:47.85.  Just like Rehn, Curran improved his finals time from the prelims.

The women's 800-yard freestyle relay finished fourth after shaving 32 seconds off their preliminary round time.  Rehn swan the opening leg of the relay followed by sophomore Darci Schultz (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) and freshman Kelly Strohm (Cherry Hills Village, Colo./Regis Jesuit), while freshman Megan Patch (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline) anchored the relay.

On the men's side, Coe shaved 17 seconds off their time in the 800-yard freestyle relay.  Junior Ben Potts (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/SE Polk) led off, followed by Curran and sophomore Paul Davis (Winnebago, Ill./Pecatonica), with freshman Zach Ahles (Andover, Minn./Andover) anchoring the Kohawks.

After two days, the Coe women are sixth with 202 points.  They are just 19 points away from fourth place.  With 114 points, the Coe men are in 7th place.
