SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - After falling 3-1 in the season opener, Coe bounced back for an 8-0 win over Washington University of St. Louis in the season opening doubleheader for both teams.  Coe gave up two unearned runs in the first inning of the first game, while stranding 10 runners in the loss.
Trailing 3-0, Coe scored its lone run of the first game in the fourth inning.  Senior Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) reached on an error to start the inning, while advancing to second base on the play.  With one out, junior Kevin Schuver (Marion, Iowa/Marion) doubled to left center, plating Schisler.

Senior Pat Richmond (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown) was 2-for-3 on the day, while Schuver was 2-for-2 with the RBI.    Senior Cody Raisch (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) took the loss for Coe.  Raisch struck out six in six innings of work, while giving up just three hits.

The Kohawk bats came alive in the night cap, as they tallied eight runs on 10 hits.  After scoring one run in the fifth inning, Coe plated five runs in the sixth inning.  All five runs came with two outs.  The Kohawks tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, as they held the Bears scoreless in the game.

Freshman Nick Stein (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) was 1-for-2 in the game with three RBIs as he had an in-the-park home run in the sixth inning.  Junior Ryan Velvick (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie), senior Nick Robertson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) and Schisler all had two hits and scored in the game. 

Freshman Wade Morris (Conrad, Iowa/BCLUW) and senior Nick McKenzie (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) each scored a run, while McKenzie had two RBI.  Senior Joe Swanson (Marion, Iowa/Marion) scored two runs.

Junior Kevin Baranowski (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) threw 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, to earn the win.

The Kohawks return to action Sunday afternoon as they face Fontbonne in St. Louis.
