CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe earned a pair of wins Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Carthage and an 8-1 win over Dubuque in the Nightcap. Two of Coe's losses came to players ranked in the Central Region.
Sophomore
Victor Khristenko (Orel, Russia) was a 7-5, 6-4 winner at number three singles against Carthage's Jeffrey Lotz. Khristenko teamed with freshman
Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) for a 9-8 win over Lotz and J.T. Delk at number two doubles. Newman was also a 6-3, 6-2 victor over Chris Vargo at number six singles.
Junior
Scott Stegemann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Matt Whiteside at number four singles before pairing with junior
Elliot Rausa (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) for an 8-3 win over Sammy Ramoni and Jack Schiro at number one doubles.
At number five singles, sophomore
Jonathan Roger (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) beat Delk 6-2, 6-4. He also teamed with senior
Greg Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./West) for an 8-3 win over Vargo and Andrew Schwenke.
The Kohawks started their conference match with the Spartans by taking all three doubles matches. Rausa and Stegemann beat David Jacobsen and Nick Garcia 8-2 at number one doubles. Both number two and three doubles earned 8-4 wins.
Janssen beat Jon Kroll 6-1, 6-2 at number two singles, while Khristenko was a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 winner over Demetrius Johnson at number three. Stegemann earned a straight-set win over Cory McCarthy, as Newman and freshman
Kyle Tucker (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) were winners at number five and six singles.
The Kohawks return to action over Spring Break, as they play three matches in Orlando, Fla.
