Rush started the second period on bottom, giving up his riding time during the first 1:24. With :36 left in the second, Rush reversed the action for a 6-1 lead. Erdman escaped with :13 to wrestle, but Rush scored another takedown at the buzzer for an 8-2 lead into the third period.
The two All-Americans started neutral in the third period, with Rush taking a 10-2 lead on a takedown with :41 left. Erdman escaped with :24 remaining, but Rush threw him to the mat with under :05 to wrestle, scoring a takedown and two near fall points for the major decision.
Rush joins
Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) as the only National
Champions and three-time All-Americans in school history. He also joined Nick Hobbs as the only two wrestlers in Coe history to have wrestled for a National Championship twice in their careers.
Coe finished fourth overall for the third consecutive year.
