CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Junior Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Aledo) became Coe's second Wrestling National Champion Saturday night with a 14-3 major decision at 125 pounds.  It was the second appearance in the championship match for Rush, who lost in 2008.

Rush entered the match with third-seeded Tyler Erdman of Elizabethtown.  Rush was 32-1, while Erdman was 25-1.  The two wrestlers had combined for three falls and two major decisions entering the finals.

With a style of attacking early, Rush scored a takedown :29 into the match for a 2-0 lead.  Doing what he does best, Rush let Erdman out just :08 later.  With :37 left in the first period, Rush took a 4-1 lead with a takedown.  He rode Erdman out to end the period.

Rush started the second period on bottom, giving up his riding time during the first 1:24.  With :36 left in the second, Rush reversed the action for a 6-1 lead.  Erdman escaped with :13 to wrestle, but Rush scored another takedown at the buzzer for an 8-2 lead into the third period.

The two All-Americans started neutral in the third period, with Rush taking a 10-2 lead on a takedown with :41 left.  Erdman escaped with :24 remaining, but Rush threw him to the mat with under :05 to wrestle, scoring a takedown and two near fall points for the major decision.

Rush joins Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) as the only National Champions and three-time All-Americans in school history.  He also joined Nick Hobbs as the only two wrestlers in Coe history to have wrestled for a National Championship twice in their careers.

Coe finished fourth overall for the third consecutive year.
