CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the third-straight year, the Coe wrestling team has had the highest combined overall national championship placing and academic standing in wrestling. The Kohawks had the third highest GPA in the nation, while finishing fourth on the mat.
2010 marked the third-straight year the Kohawks have held that honor, while they were the only team to finish in the top six in the nation on the mat and in the classroom. Williams had the highest team GPA at 3.543 for the third-straight year, while Ohio Northern edged Coe with a 3.484. The Kohawks had a combined GPA of 3.482.
Four Kohawks earned NWCA Scholar All-American status. Senior
Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) had the 11th highest GPA in the nation at 3.907. Fellow senior
Rob Kramer (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie), sophomore
James Locke (Minneapolis, Minn./South) and junior
Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Aledo) were also named Scholar All-Americans. Rush was one of just four National Champions to also earn Scholar All-American status.
In total, 14 members of the Iowa Conference earned Scholar All-American honors. Coe was the highest of the three Iowa Conference schools ranked in the top 20, as Luther was 12th and Cornell was 18th.
