HOLLAND, Mich. - The Coe men's tennis team improved to 14-7 on the year with a 7-2 win over regional opponent Hope Saturday. Coe took a 2-1 advantage into singles play, where they earned wins at 2-5.
Juniors
Elliot Rausa (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) and
Scott Stegemann (Davenport, Iowa/Central) were 8-4 winners over Bobby Cawood and John Gardner at number one doubles. Rausa also beat Jonathan Lautz 6-4, 6-2 at number two singles, while Stegemann was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Gabe Casher at number three singles.
Senior
Greg Janssen (Oshkosh, Wis./West) teamed with freshman
Curtis Newman (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) for an 8-3 win over Lautz and John Garland at number two doubles. Newman was also a 6-3, 6-1 winner at number five singles against Daniel Owens.
Sophomore
Victor Khristenko (Orel, Russia) and freshman
Kyle Tucker (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) earned the Kohawks final two wins at four and six singles. Khristenko beat Alex Hughes 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 at number four, while Tucker defeated Kyle McKey 7-6, 7-5 at number six singles.
Coe closes out their regular season on Friday, as they host Loras at 4 p.m. The matches will be played at the Clark Racquet Center.
