WAVERLY, Iowa - After dropping a pair of heartbreaking losses to open the series, Coe posted an 18-15 win over Wartburg Saturday to close out the three-game Iowa Conference series. The Knights won 12-10 on Friday in the bottom of the 10th and took the Saturday opener 2-1.
Coe wasted no time scoring in the finale, as they posted three runs in the first inning. With one out, sophomore
Adam Nisenson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) walked. A single by senior
Pat Richmond (Algonquin, Ill./Algonquin) moved Nisenson to third and landed Richmond at second on the throw. Senior
Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) drove in the first run of the game on a single to left field, with Richmond moving to third. A single to right field by junior
Kevin Schuver (Marion, Iowa/Marion) drove in Richmond, while a throwing error by the righ fielder allowed Schisler to score.
The Kohawks were held scoreless in the second inning, which was the only inning Coe wouldn't score, but bounced back for five runs in the third. Schisler led the inning off with a single to center field. With one out, Schisler moved to second on an infield groundout, while he advanced to third on a wild pitch. Back-to-back walks by junior
Ryan Velvick (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) and sophomore
John Logan (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) loaded the bases for sophomore
Scott DeAngelis (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton). DeAngelis singled to right field, plating Velvick and Schisler. Freshman
Nick Stein (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) hit his team-leading eighth home run of the season to drive in the final three runs of the inning.
Wartburg jumped back in the game with six runs of their own in the bottom of the third, but Coe extended its lead in the fourth. Schisler again led the inning off with a single, this time to left field. A groundout by Schuver moved Schisler to second before freshman
Kaileb Armbruster (DeSoto, Mo./DeSoto) advanced him to third on a double down the right field line. With two outs, Logan doubled to left center, plating both Schisler and Armbruster.
The Knights tied the game with four runs in the fourth inning, but Coe once again struck to regain the lead. With two outs, Richmond homered to left field. Schisler walked and scored on a double by Schuver. Wartburg took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning, as they plated four more runs, taking a 14-12 lead.
Coe scored three more runs in the sixth inning on two hits. Velvick singled to lead off the inning and later scored on sacrifice fly by Nisenson. With Stein and senior
Joe Swanson (Marion, Iowa/Marion) on base, Richmond singled to center field, plating two more runs.
The Kohawks added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Armbruster singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Logan singled to left field, plating Armbruster. With two outs, senior
Nick Robertson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) homered to left field.
Richmond and Schisler led the Kohawks with three hits apiece, while Schuver, Armbruster and Logan had two. Schisler scored a game-high four runs. With his three hits in the game, Richmond became just the second player in school history to surpass 200 career hits. In Friday night's game, he passed Cody Smith with his 560th career at-bat.

Josh Barber (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) earned his first career win in 1.2 innings on the hill. He struck out one and gave up one hit.
The Kohawks return to action on Tuesday, when they host Iowa Conference rival Cornell. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Daniels Park
