Junior Kevin Baranowski improved to 5-3 on the year with the win over Wisconsin-Platteville.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Wisconsin-Platteville scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning, but Coe answered with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning, as they held on for a 5-2 win Saturday.  The win improved the Kohawks to 21-13 on the year, while the Pioneers feel to 19-15.
The Pioneers started the fourth with a full count walk by Brett Benesh.  Benesh stole second before being driven in on a two-out single by Joe Nartowicz.

Coe quickly answered with a five-run inning of its own.  Junior Ryan Velvick (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) led the inning off with a single up the middle.  Velvick moved to second on a single through the left side by senior Pat Richmond (Algonquin, Ill./Algonquin).  Senior Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) moved the runners up on an attempted sacrifice bunt, but was allowed to reach as the catcher overthrew first base.  Richmond moved to third on the play, while Velvick scored to tie the game.

Richmond scored the go-ahead run on a single to shortstop by junior Kevin Schuver (Marion, Iowa/Marion).  A single through the left side by sophomore Adam Nisenson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) plated Schisler.  With one out, freshman Kaileb Armbruster (DeSoto, Mo./DeSoto) singled through the right side to load the bases.

Armbruster was thrown out at second as sophomore Scott DeAngelis (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) reached on a fielders choice.  Schuver scored on the play.  A failed pick off attempt allowed Nisenson to score for the final run of the inning.

The Pioneers scored one run in the ninth inning, but stranded two runners to close the game.

Velvick and Schuver led the Kohawks with two hits apiece.  With four at-bats in the game, Velvick became the 13th player in school history to have 400 at-bats.

Junior Kevin Baranowski (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) improved to 5-3 on the year with five innings pitched.  He gave up just three hits, while allowing one earned run.  Senior Alec Lewis (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) earned his first save of the season.  His three innings on the hill came in his 54th career appearance, setting a new school record.  He struck out one, while giving up just three hits.

Coe returns to action on Sunday for one final non-conference game.  The Kohawks will face crosstown foe Mount Mercy at 2 p.m.   The game will be played at Cedar Rapids Xavier High School.
