MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Coe scored in all but three innings the doubleheader Saturday against Cornell, as they came away with 6-0 and 10-0 wins over the Rams.  Coe finished the regular season with a 23-14 overall record and 9-7 league record, while securing the fourth seed for the IIAC Tournament.
Senior Abby Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) singled to right field to start the game.  After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Callie Morningstar (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon), Wedemeier moved to third on a ground ball by senior Chelsea Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier).  Wedemeier scored on a single to right field by senior Mackenzie Lang (Urbandale, Iowa/Johnston).

Coe added another run with two outs in the second inning.  Junior Shanon Aguero (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) singled to center field for the first hit of the inning.  Aguero moved to second on a single to left field by sophomore Amanda Hanson (Riverside, Iowa/Highland).  Wedemeier tallied her second hit of the game on a single to center field to plate Aguero.

After three scoreless innings, Coe got back on the scoreboard in the sixth inning.  With one out, Wedemeier singled to shortstop.  A single to left field by Morningstar moved Wedemeier to second.  Zaugg then hit her fourth home run of the season to left field, extending the Coe lead to 5-0.  Coe would leave three runners on base to finish the inning.

Coe added its final run in the seventh inning.  Hanson singled to left for the first hit of the inning.  With one out, Hanson stole second before Morningstar walked.  A single to center field by Zaugg loaded the bases.  Lang reached on a fielders choice, plating Hanson for the final run of the game.

Wedemeier and Zaugg led the Kohawks with four and three hits apiece.  Aguero and Hanson added two.  Zaugg had three RBI, while Lang had two.  Wedemeier scored two runs. 

Sophomore Ashlee Simon improved to 19-8 in the circle with the complete game win.  Simon gave up just one hit, while striking out 10.

Coe scored early and often in the second game, as they won 10-0 in five innings.  Wedemeir once again singled to lead off the game.  With one out, Zaugg singled to center field.  A single by Lang plated Wedemeier for the first run of the game.  A ground ball by senior Katie Kramer (Nevada, Iowa/Ames) plated Zaugg, giving the Kohawks a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

Sophomore Sidney Ridout (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) doubled to start the second inning.  A ground ball by Hanson moved Ridout to third before she scored on a wild pitch.

The Kohawks plated three more runs in the third inning.  With one out, Aguero singled to center field before stealing second.  Junior CC Williams (Lisbon, Iowa/Lisbon) doubled to drive in Aguero.  Williams moved to third on a wild pitch.  With two outs, Hanson singled after gaining new life at the plate after a dropped foul ball.  The single by Hanson plated Williams.  Coe's final run of the inning came from Hanson, as she scored on a double by Wedemeier.

Coe started the fourth inning with a single by Lang before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kramer.  A ground ball by Aguero moved Lang to third before scoring on a single by Williams.

The Kohawks ended the game with three runs in the fifth inning.  Hanson singled to left field to start the inning, while ending up on third at the end of the play with two errors on the play.  Wedemeier reached on an error by the third baseman, putting runners on the corners for Morningstar, who singled to left field to plate Hanson.  A walk by Zaugg loaded the bases for Lang.  A single to center field by Lang plated Morningstar and Wedemeier for the final runs of the game.

Lang led the Kohawks with three hits in the nightcap, while Wedemeier, Morningstar, Williams and Hanson had two hits apiece.  Lang had three RBI, while Williams had two.  Wedemeier and Hanson each scored twice.

Kramer earned the win for Coe.  In five innings of work, Kramer struck out two and gave up just three hits.

With the doubleheader sweep, Coe earned the fourth seed in this weekend's Iowa Conference Tournament.  The Kohawks will face Buena Vista in the first game at a time to be determined.  Simpson, the leagues champion, will host the three-day tournament.
