DECORAH, Iowa - Coe finished second at the Iowa Conference Automatic Qualifier Saturday, as they fell 5-2 to Luther. Coe advanced to the championship match with a 6-0 win over Wartburg in the semifinals.
Coe opened the match with three doubles wins against Wartburg. Senior
Andrea Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) teamed with her sister,
Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) for an 8-5 win over Molly Eslick and Leanna Nelson at number one doubles.
Both Schupbach's won their singles matches as well. Andrea beat Nelson 6-0, 6-2 at number two singles, while Michelle beat Emily Heying 6-1, 7-5 at number three singles.
Junior
Hannah Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa/West) and senior
Megan Fiala (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) beat Claire Evans and Heying 8-4 at number two doubles. Jensen was also a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Eslick at number one singles.
Coe's final doubles win came from
Natalie Bordignon (Robins, Iowa/Xavier) and
Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) at number three doubles. They beat Jenny Dallenbach and Leanna Jenkins 8-5.
Michelle Schupbach and Jensen earned Coe's two wins against Luther. Jensen defeated Kelsie Allen 6-1, 6-3 at number one singles, while Schupbach beat Alana Humpal 6-3, 6-3 at number three singles.
