CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Senior
Pat Richmond (Algonquin, Ill./Algonquin) broke Coe's career hits record with a three-hit performance Tuesday night in a 16-6 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the seventh annual Corridor Classic. Richmond now has 209 career hits, one of just two players with more than 200 hits in their career.
Coe jumped all over the Hawkeyes in the top of the first inning, but weren't able to perform on the defensive end to hold the lead. With one out, Richmond doubled to left field before freshman
Nick Stein (Mesa, Ariz./Horizon) walked. Senior
Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Junior
Ryan Velvick singled a 2-2 pitch up the middle, driving in Stein and Richmond. Junior
Kevin Schuver (Marion, Iowa/Marion) doubled down the right field line to plate Velvick for the third run of the inning.
Iowa posted big run totals in the early innings, taking a 14-3 lead in the third inning. Following another Hawkeye run in the fifth, Coe answered with three more runs in the sixth inning.
Senior
Jacob Schwind (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) led off the sixth with a single. A walk by sophomore
Scott DeAngelis (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) brought Richmond to the plate. With one out, Richmond doubled down the left field line, plating Schwind and moving DeAngelis to to third. A Schisler single to right field drove in DeAngelis and Richmond for the Kohawks final runs of the game.
Richmond's record breaking hit came with two outs in the eighth inning on a single to center field. He finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Velvick led all players with a 5-for-5 performance, including two RBI. Schisler had two hits and two RBI.
Sophomore
Sean Raisch (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) took the loss for the Kohawks. Seniors
Ryan Rayhill (Evergreen Park, Ill./St. Rita) and
Cody Raisch (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale), along with freshman
Tyler Kozelka (McGregor, Iowa/Prairie
Du Chien) all saw time on the mound for the Kohawks. Kozelka, making his first collegiate appearance, threw 3.2 innings for the Kohawks. He gave up just four hits and allowed one run. He struck out two.
Coe returns to action Wednesday night with a nine-inning Iowa Conference game at Cornell. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Mount Vernon.
