
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Trailing by five runs, Coe scored seven runs on five hits in the seventh inning, as they rallied to stay alive in the Iowa Conference Tournament. Coe added another run in the seventh to take a 10-7 win from Central, eliminating the third-seeded Dutch.
Coe put two runs on the scoreboard in the third inning to open the scoring in the game. Sophomore Scott DeAngelis (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) led off the inning with a single to shortstop. With one out, sophomore Adam Nisenson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) singled up the middle. Freshman Nick Stein (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) doubled to right field, driving in DeAngelis for the game's first run. Junior Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) hit a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Nisenson.
The Kohawks gave up three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth, as the Dutch took a 7-2 lead into the sixth inning. Schisler led off the sixth inning with a single to right field. Junior Ryan Velvick (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) followed with a single up the middle. Coe loaded the bases as junior Kevin Schuver (Marion, Iowa/Marion) was hit by a pitch. Sophomore John Logan (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) singled to right field to plate Schisler.
Back-to-back walks by senior Jacob Schwind (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) and Nisenson brought in Velvick and Schuver, cutting the Dutch lead to 7-5. A pinch-hit triple by senior Nick Robertson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) cleared the bases, giving the Kohawks an 8-7. Schisler singled to left center field for his second hit of the inning, plating Robertson.
Coe scored the final run of the game in the seventh inning. Logan doubled off the left field wall to start the inning before being moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Spencer Sobba (Kansas City, Mo./St. Pius X). DeAngelis hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Logan.
Logan led the Kohawks with three hits, while Robertson, Stein and Schisler had two hits apiece. Robertson drove in three runs, while Schisler and DeAngelis had two RBI. Logan and DeAngelis scored twice for the Kohawks.
Senior Alec Lewis (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) recorded his school record 11th win of the season in nine innings on the hill. He struck out nine, while giving up five earned runs.
Coe will face Simpson Saturday at 3 p.m. in the consolation bracket of the Iowa Conference Tournament. Simpson beat Coe 14-8 in the opening game of the tournament, as the Storm rallied from a six-run deficient to start the game. The game will be played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
