CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Three Kohawk softball players earned postseason awards recently, both on the field and in the classroom. Coe had three members of the All-Iowa Conference team, two NFCA All-Region selections and one
ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District member.
Senior
Abby Wedemeier (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) earned her fourth All-Iowa Conference honor, as she was named to the first team as a utility player. Wedemeier spent the season split between left field and catching behind the plate. She was a second team selection her freshman and sophomore years, while being named to the first team last year as well.
Sophomore
Ashlee Simon (Riverside, Iowa/Highland) and senior
Chelsea Zaugg (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) were named to the All-Iowa Conference Second Team. It was the second all-conference honors for both players. Simon was a second team selection last year, while Zaugg was a second team honoree in 2008.
Simon and Wedemeier were both named to the NFCA All-Midwest Region Second Team as well. Simon was a second team selection last year, while Wedemeier earned third team honors in 2007.
Zaugg was an
ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Second Team selection. To
be eligible for selection to the Academic All-District Team,
a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and
athletic
standing, be a starter or key reserve and possess at least a
3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
