CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Both the Coe men's and women's cross country teams opened the season with top three finishes at the Mt. Mercy Mustang Gallop. Senior Brad O'Neil (Stuarts Draft, Vir./Stuarts Draft) led the men to a second place finish, as he crossed the line in 17:13, good for seventh place overall.

Sophomore Ashley Schnell (Lincoln, Neb./North Star) led the women's team to third place finish, as she placed fourth in a time of 16:26. Freshman Staci Werger (Elkader, Iowa/Central) placed 15th in a time of 17:04, while senior Linda Freiha (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) finished 17th in 17:15. No other Kohawks placed in the top 20.

On the men's side, six Kohawks finished in the top 15. Freshman Andrew Dewar (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) placed eighth in 17:14, while junior Lane Moser (Wapello, Iowa/Wapello) also ran a 17:14, finishing ninth. Junior Ryan Schroeder (Byron, Ill./Byron) placed 10th in a time of 17:15.

The Kohawk women return to action next weekend, as they host Augustana in a dual meet in Cedar Rapids.
