CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Senior Tyler Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) has been selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American First Team.  Burkle is the 32nd Kohawk to be selected for the award and just the sixth first-team selection.
Burkle becomes the second Kohawk to earn CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American First Team honors this season, as junior baseball player Ryan Schisler (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) also earned the award.  It is the first time in school history Coe has had two players earn first-team honors in the same school year.

Burkle also earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors in 2008, as he was a second-team selection.  He joins David Simmons as the only Coe wrestlers to earn the award.  Simmons was selected to the second team in 1995.

The number one ranked wrestler entering the NCAA Championships, Burkle finished third at 184 pounds after being upset in the quarterfinals.  Following his quarterfinal round loss, Burkle won four-straight matches.  Burkle was in search of his second National Championship, having won the 165 pound title in 2008.  He finished last season third at the same weight.

Burkle finished his career with 125 wins, the fourth most in school history.  His 37 wins on the season were the fourth most in school history as well.  Burkle ended his career on top of Coe's career major decisions list with 27.

Burkle graduated from Coe with a Business Administration degree.
