CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College football team, fresh off its best finish in school history, is ranked in two preseason polls. The Kohawks are ranked 18th in The Sporting News poll and 20th in the USA Today Top 25 poll.
Head Coach
Steve Staker's squad finished the 2009 campaign ranked 10th in the D3football.com poll and 12th in the AFCA Coaches Poll. Coe finished the season 10-2, while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
The Kohawks return 35 letterwinners from last season's team that also has 17 starters coming back. The Kohawks will be led by reigning Iowa Conference MVP
Brad Boyle (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) at quarterback and D3football.com All-American
Frank Weymiller (New Albin, Iowa/Waukon) at defensive end.
Coe is one of two IIAC schools ranked in both polls. Defending Iowa Conference Champion Central is 10th in the USA Today poll and ninth in The Sporting News poll. The two teams square off September 25 at Clark Field.
The Kohawks open the season September 4 at Iowa Wesleyan.
