
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- Coe jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the game's first 3:32 and never looked back as they avenged last season's loss to St. Mary's Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse. Sophomore Sarah Anciaux (Iowa City, Iowa/City) just missed a triple-double in the 79-54 win over the Cardinals. Anciaux finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. She also added six steals.
With 15:04 to play in the opening half, St. Mary's used an 8-4 run to cut the Coe lead to five, but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way. Coe responded with a 14-2 run, opening the lead up to 17 points. The Kohawks closed the half on a 9-2 run and headed to the locker rooms with a 20-point halftime lead, their largest of the season.
The two teams split the first 10 points of the first half before the Kohawks opened the game up. Coe went on a 14-3 run over 7:03 to extend the lead to 31 with 7:55 to play. The Cardinals responded with a 12-2 run of their own, but were not able to get the lead under 20 points the remainder of the game. Senior Calie Sobaski (Iowa City, Iowa/City) went on a 7-2 run of her own to extend the Coe lead back to 26 points. Sobaski finished with a game-high 14 points.
Three other Kohawks joined Anciaux and Sobaski in double-figures. Sophomore Tara Carsner (Marion, Iowa/Marion) had 14 points, including four 3-point baskets. Sophomores Kayla Lincoln (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) and Brittany Norris (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) added 12 and 11 points respectively. Norris also had three blocked shots.
As a team, the Kohawks held a 34-20 advantage in the paint and scored 29 points off turnovers. They also held a 38-22 lead in bench scoring.
With the non-conference schedule behind them, the Kohawks will return to Iowa Conference play on Saturday as they travel to Luther. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
