Kohawks move to 3-0 with win over Pioneers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe took 2-of-3 doubles matches and four singles matches as they beat Grinnell 6-3. The Kohawks moved to 3-0 on the year with the victory in their home opener.
Senior Hannah Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa/West) took the first singles win at number one, as she defeated Toby Cain 6-2, 6-4. She also teamed with Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill/.Washington) for an 8-5 win over Constanza Alarcon and Catherine Fitch at number two doubles.
Sophomore Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Alarcon at number two singles, while teaming with freshman Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian) for an 8-3 win over Cain and Clothilde Thirouin at number one doubles. Lucero was also a 6-4, 7-6 winner over Thirouin at number three singles.
Senior Natalie Bordignon (Robins, Iowa/Xavier) was the Kohawks other singles winner, as she beat Hanna Feldman 6-4, 6-3 at number five singles.
The Kohawks will return to action next Sunday, as they return to Iowa Conference action against Luther. The match will start at 1 p.m. at the Clark Racquet Center.
