LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Kohawk wrestling team improved to 8-1 on the year with a perfect 4-0 record at Sunday's Desert Duals, hosted by Wartburg at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. It's the third-straight year the Kohawks have gone undefeated at the dual format tournament.

Coe earned wins over two teams currently ranked in the NWCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Kohawks, ranked number two in the nation, beat #16 Elmhurst 28-14 and #23 Olivet 26-16.

Individually, Coe earned four wins over ranked opponents on the day. At 125 pounds, sophomore Clayton Rush (Aledo, Ill./Aledo) beat seventh-ranked David Penny of Ohio Northern by Technical Fall at 6:55. Rush is currently ranked number two in the nation.

Three Kohawks earned wins over ranked opponents in the match with Elmhurst. At 149 pounds, junior Mark Carey (Raytown, Mo./South) won by fall over seventh-ranked Charlie Curran in 3:39. Bryon Grothus (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption) beat third-ranked Tony Doan by Major Decision at 157 pounds. At heavyweight, fourth-ranked Mitch Sander (Clarence, Iowa/North Cedar) beat ninth-ranked Mark Corsello 9-5.

Junior Rob Kramer (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) was perfect on the day with a 4-0 record. He won two matches by major decision, one by technical fall and the fourth by forfeit. Sander was also perfect on the day, with a 3-0 record at heavyweight.

The Kohawks will return to action Jan. 3-4 at the Cornell Matman Invite.
