DECORAH , Iowa - Coe struggled from the field Wednesday night, as Luther came away with a 72-58 win over the Kohawks. Luther won the outright conference title with the victory, while the Kohawks finished second.

The two teams traded baskets during the first 15 minutes of the game, with neither team leading by more than three points. During the stretch, the game was tied six times and the lead changed hands eight times. Luther took advantage in the final five minutes, closing the half on a 12-5 run to take a 33-23 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Luther opened the second half just like they finished the first half. Sophomore Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) scored :20 into the half, cutting the lead to single digits. The Norse responded with a 9-0 run, taking a 44-25 lead with 14:10 to play. A 3-pointer by sophomore Nathan Joens (Swisher, Iowa/Xavier) with 2:21 remaining cut the Luther lead to 11, but Coe couldn't get any closer.

Senior Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) had a game-high 20 points and two steals. Sophomore David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) added 19 points. Light tallied a career-high 12 rebounds and nine points, while Joens tied a career-high with five rebounds. Light had one block in the game, moving him to fifth on the all-time list with 48.

The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they host Dubuque at 4 p.m. The Spartans are one of five teams battling for the final four spots in the Iowa Conference Tournament. Coe will honor its five seniors before the game.
