CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe women's swimming and diving team sits in third place after the first day of the Liberal Arts Championships.  On the men's side, senior Peter Curran (Afton, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) broke the school record in the 200 IM.

The Kohawk women opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  After swimming a 1:45.01 in the prelims, the relay swam a 1:43.69 in the finals.  Luther won the event in 1:36.55, setting a new Liberal Arts and Coe Natatorium record.  The Kohawk men also qualified for the finals in the 200-yard freestyle.  They finished sixth in 1:35.47, swimming faster in the finals than their prelim time.

In the 500-yard freestyle, junior Kelsie Rehn (Oceanside, Calif./Vista) finished fifth in 5:23.72.  On the men's side, Ben Potts (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/SE Polk) was 14th in 5:17.47, while Paul Davis (Winnebago, Ill./Pecatonica) finished 16th in the 5:19.83, shaving four seconds off his time in the finals from the prelims.

Curran broke his school record with the sixth-best preliminary time in the 200 IM.  He swam a 2:00.91, cutting six seconds off his season best.  He finished eighth in the finals with a time of 2:02.94.

Coe had two finalist in the 50-yard freestyle for the women, as Ariana Uding (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young) was seventh in 25.66 and Andi Queisner (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) was eighth in 26.23.  Luther's Rachel Bruns won the event in 23.95, breaking the Liberal Arts and Coe Natatorium records.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the Kohawk women finished sixth in 4:22.86, bettering their prelim time of 4:23.05.  Luther won the event in 3:59.29, breaking the Liberal Arts and Coe Natatorium records.

On the one-meter diving boards, Coe's Ken Otton (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) was eighth with a score of 243.45, adding 8.25 points to his finals score from the morning session.  For the women on the three-meter board, Rebecca Herman (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was second with a score of 359.90, adding 11.9 points to her finals score.  Elizabeth Curley (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) was third with a score of 336.45.

Coe is third on the women's side with 124 points.  Luther is first with 282 and Lindenwood second with 209.  For the men, Coe is eighth with 52 points, while Lindenwood leads with 343 points.
