DES MOINES, Iowa - In dominating fashion, junior
Keelie Finnel (Francis Creek, Wis./Mishicot) won the 800-meter run in the Unseeded University/College Division at the 2011 Drake Relays. Her time was the fourth fastest in NCAA Division III history.
Finnel finished in a time of 2:06.83, beating Arkansas' Martine Borge for first place. Borge finished in 2:08.00. Finnel also beat runners from Texas-Arlington, Bradley, St. Louis, Missouri State, Iowa State and Notre Dame.
Finnel's time broke the Coe record and automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships in May. Her time is nearly four seconds faster than anyone in the nation. She also became the first individual and first female to win an event at the Drake Relays in Coe history.
Coe will continue to compete at the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday. The Kohawks have relays entered in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 1,600 Sprint Medley.
