Coe scored eight of the game's first 10 points in under three minutes, but Central answered with a 14-5 run and later used a 10-0 run in the first half to give the Dutch a 12 point halftime lead. Central scored the first two baskets of the second half to increase their lead to 16 points, but Coe fought back for the remainder of the half.
Sophomore Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) and senior Marc Gorenstein (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) combined for a 10-0 Kohawk run that cut the lead to six. Central moved its lead back to 13 points with a 9-2 run, but Coe put themselve back in the game with a 14-3 run that cut the lead to two with 8:03 to play in the game.
Senior Kevin Dux (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) hit a 3-point basket with 4:21 to play that cut the lead to one. Neither team could score again until junior Cass Behrens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) hit a free throw with 2:51 remaining to tie the game. Tatman hit a jumper with 2:13 left to give the Kohawks their first lead since the 11:18 mark of the first half.
Central opend the first 3;15 of overtime on a 16-2 run that put the game away.
Tatman led all scorers with 23 points. Freshman Kevin Gaster (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) added 10 points and three steals.
Coe returns to action on Monday night as they face Linn County rival Cornell. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
