STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team opened the day with a 9-0 win over Northwestern (Iowa) and finished it with an 8-1 win over Buena Vista. The wins moved Coe to 5-0 in Iowa Conference play and 7-0 overall.
In the win over Buena Vista, junior
Michelle Schupbach (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Columbus) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Emily Gutschenritter at number one singles. Teaming with sophomore
Tai Lucero (Odessa, Texas/Permian), Schupbach beat Gutschenritter and Haley Henrichs 8-0 at number one doubles. Lucero then beat Henrichs 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles.
At number four singles, freshman
Jackie Pedersen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) beat Mary Jane Ferguson 6-0, 6-1. Pedersen had teamed with junior
Sara Ohlman (Washington, Ill./Washington) to beat Ferguson and Tasha Nelson 8-3 at number two doubles.
Freshman
Jordan Ferree (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) beat Kelli Kroepel 6-2, 6-0 at number five singles. Ferree and sophomore
Elizabeth Hoffmann (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) beat Elizabeth Heffernan and Kroepel 8-6 at number three doubles. Hoffmann was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Amanda Kavan at number six singles.
The Kohawks will take on defending Iowa Conference Champion Luther Sunday. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Decorah.
