
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Coe College shot a 356 in the first round of the Iowa Conference Championships Friday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Three Kohawks recorded scores in the top 25 and only trails Buena Vista by four strokes with three rounds remaining.
Sophomore Amber Suhr (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) turned in her best round of the season to lead the Kohawks after the first round. Her 88 ties her for 21st and was her best round of the year by seven strokes. Sophomore Chelsea Crain (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) is currently tied for 23rd, along with freshman Jehri Wagner (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie), with an 89 in the first round.
Junior Erin Rowan (Naperville, Ill./North) sits in a tie for 27th with a 90, while sophomore Kayla Koschmeder (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) is tied for 30th with a 91.
Wartburg holds a one-stroke edge of Central for the lead with a 319 after the first round. Simpson is fifth at 349. Coe has a 22-stroke lead over Cornell for seventh place. The Kohawks will tee-off in the final group tomorrow at approximately 11:20 a.m.
