
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College volleyball team got off to a hot start Tuesday night and cruised to a 3-0 win over Luther in Iowa Conference play. The Kohawks are now 5-0 in league play and 19-2 overall.
The Kohawks jumped all over the Norse in the first set, winning 25-10. Coe had 15 kills and just two errors, while the Norse had five kills and six errors. Sophomore Megan Barron (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) had seven of her 12 kills in the first set, while freshman Rachel Schaefer (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) had six of her 12 kills in the first set.
Coe kept it going in the second set, winning 25-14. The Kohawks had 11 kills and three errors, while the Norse had six kills and eight errors. Barron and Schaefer each had three kills in the set.
After jumping out to a 15-6 lead in the third set, Luther battled back to tie the set. Coe pulled away at the end, winning the final set 25-22. Coe tallied 16 kills in the set, while the Norse had eight. Senior Kaitlin McClimon (DeWitt, Iowa/Central) had five of her six kills in the third set. McClimon entered the match with 10-straight matches with double-digit kills.
Junior Emily Ryan (Mount Vernon, Iowa/Mount Vernon) had a match-high 37 assists. Freshman Alissa Wittenburg (Readlyn, Iowa/Wapsie Valley) had a match-high 12 digs with Ryan joining her in double-figures with 10.
The Kohawks will look to clinch a berth in the Iowa Conference Tournament on Thursday, as they host Dubuque in an Iowa Conference match. Action is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
