CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson shot 49 percent from the field, including 59 percent in the second half, to come away with a 84-70 win over Coe Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse. All five Simpson starters scored in double-figures, including a game-high 20 points from Tim Dunlavy. 

Coe scored the game's first six points on back-to-back 3-point baskets by senior Kevin Dux (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) and junior Cass Behrens (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista). Simpson answered with a 17-3 run over the next 4:46, putting themselves in the lead until late in the second half.

Trailing by six at the break, the Kohawks came out firing in the second half. Coe opened the final period on an 8-2 run in the first 1:30, which tied the game at 38. With 9:38 to play, freshman Jordan Cunningham (Mankato, Minn./East) hit a 3-point basket to put the Kohawks ahead 54-52. Simpson answered once again with a 9-0 run over the next 1:42 to take a 61-54 lead with 7:34 to play. Sophomore Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) used a 7-0 run of his own over the next :45 to tie the game for the final time.

With the game tied for the final time, the Storm went on a 14-6 run over the next 4:12 to take an eight point lead. Cunningham hit a 3-point basket, his fourth of the game, with 1:51 to play to cut the lead to five. Coe couldn't put anymore points on the board, as Simpson finished on a 9-0 run to end the game.

Tatman led the Kohawks with 17 points. Cunningham added 12 off the bench and Dux tallied 11. Dux also had a game-high six assists and five rebounds. Freshman Kevin Gaster (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) added seven rebounds and five assists. Senior Marc Gorenstein (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) had a game-high 11 rebounds.

For the second-straight game, the Kohawks' opponent made more free throws than the Kohawks attempted. The Storm were 17-of-28, while the Kohawks were just 11-of-16 from the charity stripe.

The Kohawks will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Central. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Pella.
