
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe crowned five champions Saturday at the Coe Turkey Invitational. The Kohawks won all five weight classes from 157 pounds up to 197 pounds. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Sophomore Jimmy Gotto (Epworth, Iowa/Western Dubuque) advanced to the finals at 125 pounds with four-straight wins, including one by fall and two by technical fall. In the finals, he fell to Cornell's Ben Rosen 7-6. At 141 pounds, junior Drew Hinschberger (Belle Plaine, Iowa/Belle Plaine) lost a 2-1 semifinal match, but bounced back for a pair of consolation victories to finish third.
The Kohawks first champion came at 157 pounds, as senior Dale Handley (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett) beat teammate Jason Taylor-Ohmes (Kansas City, Mo./Rockhurst) 7-6 in the finals. Handley advanced to the finals with two falls and a major decision, while Taylor-Ohmes advanced with a technical fall and a major decision.
At 165 pounds, senior Nick LeClere (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) won two matches by major decision and pinned teammate Will Hansen (Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus) in the finals. Hansen advanced to the finals with two falls. At 174 pounds, junior Scott King (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton) beat teammate Ethan Ball (Aledo, Ill./Mercer County) 10-5 in the finals.
Freshman Ryan Sheldon (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) went 3-0 on the day to win the title at 184 pounds. Another Coe freshman earned a title at 197 pounds, as Donnie Horner (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) went 4-0 to win the title. In the opening round, Horner earned a fall over Simpson's Ryan Horworth in :46. At heavyweight, junior Alex Burkle (Coggon, Iowa/North-Linn) advanced to the finals with two falls, but was pinned by Grand View's Eric Thompson.
The Kohawks return to action Nov. 29, as they host Buena Vista in the first dual of the season.
