CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe College held Wartburg without a point in the first 6:38 of the game, but the Knights went 10-for-21 from the field in the first half after that to beat Coe 56-46 at Eby Fieldhouse. It was the first Iowa Conference loss for Coe.

Coe led 6-0 early in the game, but a 12-2 run by Wartburg gave the Knights a 12-8 lead with 9:24 to play in the first half.  Coe regained the lead on a 6-0 run in the next 1:11, as senior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) scored four of the six points to put Coe ahead 14-12 with 7:57 remaining in the half.  Wartburg responded with a 10-0 run in the next 3:27, as they took an eight-point lead with 4:10 left in the half.  Coe scored four of the final six points of the half, all from junior Caitlin Kray (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier), as Wartburg took a 24-18 lead into the locker room.

A basket by Terri Dirks :47 into the second half gave the Knights a 26-18 lead before Coe went on a 12-3 run in the next 3:11 to take a 30-29 lead with just over 15 minutes to play.  Sophomore Mary Halvorson (Waterville, Iowa/Waukon) broke the eighth tie of the game with a jumper in the pain with 12:16 to play, but Wartburg responded with a 10-1 run in the next 7:01 to break the game open.

Senior Kelsey Jipp (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) hit a 3-pointer with 3:37 to play, cutting the lead to four, but the Knights once again had an answer with an 8-4 run.  Wartburg scored the final four points in the last :16, as they pushed their lead to 10 with under :10 to play.

Coe was led by Waskow's game-high 15 points and seven rebounds.  She also had three steals and two blocked shots.  Freshman Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) added seven points and four blocked shots, while sophomore Mackenzie Reed (Iowa City, Iowa/West) added six points.  Leslie Wilson and Abi Weidemann led the Knights with 15 and 13 points apiece.

Jipp added five rebounds for the Kohawks, while sophomore Hannah Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) had two steals.  Senior Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) added two blocks and two steals.

Wartburg outscored Coe 12-2 on second chance points.  The Knights were 1-of-3 from the free throw line in the first half, but connected on 13-of-19 attempts in the second half.  Coe was a perfect 6-of-6 at the line in the first half, but struggled to 2-of-7 shooting from the charity stripe in the second half.

With the loss and Buena Vista's loss to Luther, Coe and Wartburg are now tied atop the Iowa Conference standings at 4-1.  Coe will travel to Luther on Wednesday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Decorah.
