
GRINNELL, Iowa - The 2012 portion of the schedule continues to be good for the Kohawk swimming and diving teams. Coe turned in double-digit season-bests on the second day of the Grinnell Invite, including another top-five all-time score on the diving boards.
The Kohawks started the meet with an 18th place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Coe's team of Darci Schultz (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur), Andi Queisner (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison), Erica Czajka (Denver, Colo./George Washington) and Kenni Sterns (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) finished in 2:01.78. In the 400-yard IM, junior Kelly Strohm (Cherry Hills Village, Colo./Regis Jesuit) finished 28th with a team-best time of 5:35.26 on the year. In the 200-yard freestyle, Sterns placed 18th with a time of 2:06.62, while her preliminary time of 2:06.15 was the best for a Kohawk this season.
Queisner placed 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.78, the best for a Coe swimmer this year. On the men's side, Zachary Ahles (Andover, Minn./Andover) finished 23rd in 1:16.59, while his preliminary time of 1:16.53 was the best of the year for a Kohawk. In the 200-yard backstroke, Schultz was 18th in 2:24.64 after swimming a season-best 2:23.91 in the preliminary round.
Czajka placed 14th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.12, while Queisner had a personal season-best time of 26.50, placing 22nd. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, three Kohawks had their best time of the year. Sterns placed 11th in 19:28.19, while Nichole Lattin (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) was 22nd in 20:44.73. Mickey Meyer (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) placed 23rd in 21:36.30. On the men's side, Colin Conway (Wauwatosa, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran) had a team-best time of 21:20.31, placing 13th. Coe's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Czajka, Queisner, Schultz and Sterns turned in a season-best time of 3:56.17, placing 16th.
On the three-meter diving board, junior Rebecca Herman (Iowa City, Iowa/West) turned in a top-five all-time score for the second-straight day. After having the third best score in school history on the one-meter board Friday, Herman had the fifth-best three-meter score on Saturday. Her score of 375.70 placed her fourth, while Elizabeth Curley (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) was seventh with a score of 339.95. On the men's one-meter board, Ken Otton (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) was third with a score of 201.90.
The Kohawk women placed ninth with 224 points, while the men were sixth with 180 points. Coe will return to action on Friday, as they host Morningside at 7 p.m. at the Coe Natatorium.
