CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Coe College scored the first 11 points of the game and never trailed, as they beat Central 64-50 in an Iowa Conference game Wednesday night.  The Kohawks improved to 14-5, 8-2 IIAC with their 11th-straight win over Central.

Coe led 11-0 before Central hit its first bucket of the game on a jumper by Bry Pierce in the lane with 14:19 to play in the first half.  The Dutch cut Coe's lead to seven with 6:20 to play in the first half, but Coe answered with an 8-2 run in the next 1:57 to take a 32-19 lead with 3:18 left in the opening frame.  A jumper in the paint by Sarah Paulson cut Coe's lead to 11 with :02 left in the half, as the Kohawks took a 36-25 lead into the locker room.

The Kohawks opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore Hannah Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) and senior Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) to put the lead at 17, the largest of the game, with 18:21 to play.  Central got back in the game with a 10-0 run in the next 4:41 before senior Kelsey Jipp (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws with 11:04 to play, putting the lead back in double figures.

Paulson hit a 3-pointer with 5:39 to play, as Central cut Coe's lead to eight at 53-45.  Ware had the answer just :14 later on a fast break jumper, extending Coe's lead to double-digits for the remainder of the game.  With 3:16 to play, Coe scored seven-straight points to take a 64-47 lead before Central hit three free throws in the final :30 of the game.  The Kohawks held the Dutch without a field goal in the final 4:16 of the game.

The Kohawks shot 45.6 percent from the field just one game after their worst shooting output of the season.  Coe held Central to just 27.4 percent shooting.  The Kohawks were 10-of-10 from the free throw line at Loras on Saturday, but struggled tonight, as they hit just 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from the charity stripe.  Coe outscored Central 12-0 on fast break points, but the Dutch bench outscored Coe's 30-14.

Senior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) led the Kohawks with a game-high 16 points, as she moved past Amber Karkosh for third on the all-time scoring list with 1,148 points.  She also joined Karkosh and Shelly Howe as the only players in school history to score 300 or more points in three different seasons.

Breitbach joined Waskow in double-figures with 10 points.  Sophomore Mary Halvorson (Waterville, Iowa/Waukon), freshman Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf), Ware and senior Kelsey Jipp (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) all added eight points apiece.  Pierce and Paulson led the Dutch with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Waskow added to her game-high 16 points with 12 rebounds and a career-high in both blocks (six) and assists (seven).  Hayes added 11 rebounds and four blocks, while Jipp had five boards.  Halvorson contributed three assists, while Ware had two steals.  Breitbach tallied a career-high three blocked shots.

At 8-2 in the Iowa Conference, Coe remains on top of the league standings.  The Kohawks will host Dubuque on Saturday.  Due to the Iowa Conference Wrestling Duals at Eby Fieldhouse, tipoff has been moved to 5 p.m. against the Spartans.  Coe beat Dubuque 66-56 on Dec. 3 in Dubuque.
