
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Less than 24 hours after turning in 28 season-best times, the Kohawk swimming and diving teams were back at it against Luther Saturday. Despite the loss, Coe had a season-best in 17 events.
In the 1,000-yard free, freshman Aaron Buseman (Niwot, Colo./Niwot) had a season-best 12:13.65, placing second. In the women's 200-yard free, senior Darci Schultz (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) was fourth in 2:09.54, while sophomore Andi Queisner (Fort Madison, Iowa/Fort Madison) turned in a season-best 2:10.63, placing fourth.
Freshman Erica Czajka (Denver, Colo./George Washington) placed second in the 50-yard free in 26.39. On the men's side, Martin Benoit-Xavier Guilla (Phalenpin, France/Deforest de Leuarde) was second in 28.65. Freshman Kenni Sterns (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) was second in the 200-yard IM in 2:27.06. On the men's side, junior Zachary Ahles (Andover, Minn./Andover) was second with a season-best 2:28.92.
Junior Rebecca Herman (Iowa City, Iowa/West) won the one-meter diving with a score of 198.80, while fellow junior Elizabeth Curley (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) was second with a 194.05. On the men's side, junior Ken Otton (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) won with a 142.54. Herman and Curley also finished first and second on the three-meter boards, as Herman scored a 229.70 and Curley tallied a 208.15. Otton also won with a 143.65.
Czajka placed third in the 100-yard fly with a 1:07.70, while freshman Lindsay Meade (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) was fifth with a 1:09.85. In the 100-yard free, Queisner timed a season-best 57.82, placing third. For the men, Guilla was third in 1:02.98. Schultz placed third in the 100-yard back in 1:09.72, while Buseman was second in 1:11.69 for the men.
Sterns was fourth in the 500-yard free in 5:39.08, while freshman Nichole Lattin (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) had a season-best 6:01.68, placing sixth. On the men's side, sophomore Colin Conway (Wauwatosa, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran) clocked a season-best 5:59.64, placing third. Senior Amanda Ickes (Marion, Iowa/Xavier) turned in a season-best 1:14.89 in the 100-yard breast, placing third while junior Kelly Strohm (Cherry Hills Village, Colo./Regis Jesuit) was fourth in 1:20.79. On the men's side, Ahles was third in 1:18.32.
The Kohawk women lost the dual 172-66, while the men fell 123-50. Coe will return to action next Saturday, hosting Grinnell at 1 p.m. The Carthage men will also be at the Coe Natatorium to face the Kohawks.
