Steve Cook - Head Coach

Steve Cook came to Coe in 1996 as an assistant baseball coach, moving to the head coach position the following year. Cook is a 1993 graduate of Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, a traditional NCAA Division III powerhouse. A four-year starter in the infield, Cook was an All-American in 1993 when his nationally ranked team finished 37-5 overall.

While at Allegheny, Cook set 10 offensive records, including career batting average and RBIs as well as setting the mark in hits for a career and a single season.

He spent three years playing in the minor leagues, including a stop with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. During the 1994 season, Cook and the Kernels won the Midwest League championship.

Cook has compiled a career coaching record of 226-259-1. His 226 wins are the most in school history. In 2006, Cook led Coe to a school record 27 wins, while representing the IIAC in the NCAA Regional.
Coach Cook resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife Shannon and daughters Callie, Shelby and Lilly.

James Nelson - Assistant Coach

Coach Nelson was a three-year baseball player and 2001 Coe graduate. After his playing career, Nelson served as the Kohawk pitching coach for the 2002 season before returning on a permanent basis in 2005.

James spent two years as the pitching coach at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. While at Allegheny, he coached 2003 draft pick, and current Pittsburgh Pirate relief pitcher, Josh Sharpless.

In 2006 James served as an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati. At Cincinnati, he was in charge of outfield play, while also working with hitting and pitching.

Residing in North Liberty with his wife Dana, Coach Nelson returned to Coe in 2006 and currently serves as the Kohawk pitching coach and teaches classes in the Coe physical education department. In addition to his duties at Coe, James is a lead instructor for the TPX Top 96, who offer high school showcases and clinics nation wide.

Chad Osler - Assistant Coach
Coach Osler, a four-year baseball player and 2005 graduate of Coe, joined the coaching staff in 2006 as an assistant coach with the Kohawks. Chad assists Coach Cook with multiple aspects of the program, including hitting, catching, strength/conditioning, and being the team's first base coach. He resides in Cedar Rapids and also coaches high school baseball in the Linn-Mar school district.

Todd Lane - Assistant Coach
Coach Lane was a three-year baseball player and 1999 Coe graduate. After his playing career, Todd returned as an assistant coach. Originally from Council Bluffs, Iowa, he now resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife Jeana and teaches in the Linn-Mar school district. He is the teams' outfield instructor and works with the hitters.

John Heald - Assistant Coach

Coach Heald was a four-year baseball player and 2000 Coe graduate. After his playing career he joined the Coe staff. John is a Marion, Iowa native and currently resides there with his wife Jeanne and daughter Abby. He teaches in the Cedar Rapids school district and coaches baseball at Jefferson High School. Coach Heald works with infield and hitting.
